Banned Books
Here’s some examples of different books banned
at different times by different countries.

The Bible
Banned by the Soviet Union in 1926 (they also banned the Koran so at least they weren’t religiously prejudiced)

The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare
Banned by Jewish groups in the U.S. because of the negative view of the character, Shylock.

Wonder Stories by Hans Christian Andersen
Banned in 1954 in Illinois because the authorities thought it contained "smut"

On the Origin of Species
Banned in 1925 in Tennessee which prompted the famous Scopes Monkey Trial. The ban was not lifted until 1967.

Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
Banned in New York City in 1957 because of the frequent use of the word "nigger" in the novel.

From Here to Eternity
Deemed unworthy and objectionable by the United States Post Office in 1955. The book had been on the best-seller list for the four previous years.

American Heritage Dictionary
Banned in 1978 by the State of Missouri as it contained a number of "objectionable words".
